Interested in becoming a basketball referee??
With the basketball season quickly approaching, we are looking for kids (ages 13+) and adults to assist our current referees on weekends from November-February. A special Referee Mentoring Program has been created to help train interested individuals, with classes taking place on Monday nights throughout September (9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th) from 7:00-8:00pm at Prettyboy Elementary School. Once trained, each mentee will be paired with an experienced referee during games, and will be paid $20/rec game (grades 2-5).
You need to attend all four free training classes or you'll need to meet the referee requirements for the program in order to referee this winter.
Please register for the classes or inquire about referee requirements by reaching out to Rachael Zajac and Doug Stead directly at:

Program Notes:
Requests for teams will not be accepted. Players will be assigned to a team based on their grade and prior Prettyboy program experience participation.
What is the Clinic League?
Clinic is considered a coed "Beginner League" and does NOT have referees present for the games. Coaches help players learn the basics of the sport, and guide them through games where the coaches act as referees. All students in grade one will be assigned to a clinic team- there are NO EXCEPTIONS with this. Returning second graders will have the opportunity to choose whether they would like to be in the clinic group for another year, or move on to the League level (see below). ALL NEW SECOND GRADERS WHO DID NOT PLAY REC BASKETBALL WILL BE ASSIGNED TO PLAY IN THE CLINIC. There is no tournament at the end of this season.
What is the "League Level?"
The Legue Level is open to students in grades 2-5 (second graders must have prior clinic experience before moving to leauge. (Please see above) Students are broken into boys and girls teams and will have games where referees will officiate. The season will consist of approximately 8 games, and will end with a season tournament.
2/3 boys, 2/3 girls, 4/5 boys and 4/5 girls.
*Due to the popularity of this program, practice gym space is VERY limited. We encourage families of players on travel teams to consider only signing their child up for one program (recreation or travel).

Details about the Program
- The Prettyboy Recreation Council Basketball Program is a youth recreation program for children in grades 1st - 5th. All children within these grades are eligible to play, no previous experience or skill is required.
- As a recreational sporting program, equal playing (to the best of the coaches ability) time will be assured.
- Children in Grade 6 and above are eligible to play under the Hereford Recreation Council. The Hereford Recreation Council also offers Travel Basketball programs for children more committed to this sport.
- Children in Grade 1 and any child in Grade 2 that hasn't played in clinic must participate in the clinic program. This group stresses social and team interaction, skill development and instruction in a game environment. Children in grades 2 - 5 participate in the League Level, which emphasis rules and more structured play. Both groups have games with other teams in the area.
- Clinic teams are coed, while older grade levels are gender based. Teams fall into 3 groupings: 1st/2nd grade Clinic (with 2nd graders who are new to basketball)/ 2nd and 3rd grade / 4th and 5th grade.
- Teams will generally meet once a week for 1 hour practice.
- Games begin mid November and end in a league tournament at the end of January/beginning of February.
- The season will run from November 1st through February 1st.
